Of gullible voters and shameless politicians

They came, talked, knelt and begged for our support. We cheered, jeered and parted them on the backs But after the harvest, they never returned We were hungry, sick and deprived We were helpless Cried for their help we did, But all in vain. However, when the rains came Five seasons later, shamelessly They returned, promising this time they would share the harvest The crowd was moved Swayed, the majority cheered Chorusing “our man, our man Long live sons and daughters  of the soil.” A few of us jeered and sneered After another bump harvest The pests disappeared into thin air We were, like before, left as orphaned children.
